![]() It is a virtual partition, and thats why your formatting from windows was un-successful, it has to be done through WD's own program, which works great when you know the password by the way. WD smartware will lock the partition, and it cannot be seen by windows, including the 'logical disk manager' found under 'manage computer'. (sorry if you have already done this, i skimmed the thread, but honestly didnt read every single post) WD has a drive manager program that when working is great, but when not can cause the issues above. It would have been installed the first time you plugged it in (requires user action) but then when the matching file on the host machine isnt present(or corrupted), it has problems. The new WD drives come with some WD software from the factory that enables 'auto backups' and such. However, even that program was not able to see the WD drive. Mac and UNIX have been able to read Microsoft drives for years). I did try some random program that is supposed to allow a windows machine to see a mac drive, just in case that was the problem (it still seems stupid to me that Microsoft still can not make their OS read mac and UNIX drives. I used eeebuntu on anothe netbook for a few years and was happy with it, I just used open-office instead of MS office, in fact I am using open-office on the netbook right now because it came with some stupid trial edition of office. The only thing holding me back is the program Calibre, while it has a Linux version, the install process looks iffy at best. I am thinking of putting eeebuntu (now known as Aurora) on it. So I am stuck with windows 7 Home edition on it. I also have my netbook, unfortunately, it will not take OSx. I found that my office computer was what I expected, a poor quality install of XP (it is installed using a ghost image of another machine that is not "exactly" the same, as a result, this machine is rather quirky). I decided not to take my imac and to rely on whatever was here. At that point I discovered that the mac book was DOA (it was returned to Apple on the advise of the person at apple phone support). I had intended to take a macbook but, it arrived about three weeks before I left and I did not have time to play with it until about a week before I was due to leave. ![]() When you say "Disk Manager" do you mean the application you posted the link to or, do you mean a built in app?
